NIRVANA FACTS
-American rock band formed in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987.
-Founded by lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic.
-Recruited Dave Grohl in 1990 to replace a succession of drummers.
-The band’s success popularized alternative rock and a figurehead band for “Generation X”.
-In the late 80’s, Nirvana established itself as part of the Seattle grunge scene.
-They found unexpected success after signing with a major label, DGC Records in 1991.
-They release three studio albums; Bleach, Nevermind, and In Utero along with a compilation album; Incesticide and an EP; Hormoaning.
-Nevermind was certified Diamond by the RIAA and is credited for ending the dominance of hair metal.
-One of the best selling bands of all time, selling more than 75 million records worldwide.
-They received an American Music Award, Brit Award, Grammy Award as well as seven MTV Video Music Awards and two NME Awards.
-They had five number one hits on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and four number one albums on the Billboard 200.
Rolling Stone named them among the 100 greatest artists of all time in 2004.
-In April 1994 was found dead in his home in Seattle, Washington of suicide.

-Since Cobain’s death, listeners and critics have continued to praise the song as one of the greatest songs of all time.
-The video for the song was inspired by a 1979 film called Over the Edge and the Ramones’ film Rock ‘n’ Roll High School.
